Why doesn't Nionoki count as sports betting?
There is a clear, expertly defined global standard for determining when a game is considered 'gambling' or 'sports betting' and requires a license. The definition is:
“Games in which a monetary stake is played in anticipation of a monetary gain or another advantage with real-world value.”
This definition is straightforward: as long as no material values can be won, a game serves purely entertainment purposes. Since Nionoki's points are a strictly virtual, in-game currency, they hold no real-world monetary value. They can never be cashed out.
